HRTV: TOP FIVE PORTABLE DAB RIGS

OUR TOP FIVE ELECTRIC DAB RIGS

Yo, what's up guys, today we're going to be talking about the top five portable dab rigs of 2023. Here at Highrise, we're fortunate to be in the mix of the LA community. We've helped with branding and marketing for hella brands, as well as hosting weed events every month. It's a trip getting to see flower and jars of rosin straight out of the cure room or off the press, but what's better than seeing it is getting to taste it. While there's plenty of pelis protecting heady rigs at events, us stoners are lucky to have a growing line of portable dab rigs for us to dab on the go. So put down the torch, we're going to be talking about the top five portable dab rigs that we've seen and ripped the most in the current epicenter of cannabis.

Puffco Peak Pro

Let's start with the industry standard, the Kleenex or Q-tips of portable E-rigs. If G-pen was the industry standard for dab pens, Puffco is the standard for portable dab rigs. The original Puffco Peak launched in 2018, changing the game for hash heads. The Peak Pro came later, and this year Puffco introduced their 3D and 3D XL Chambers. If you've ever messed with e-rigs over the years, you know it's hard to get one fat rip off the device.

These new atomizers were made for fat clouds, trying to mimic the rip you get out of a torch and banger. Twist it on the Peak Pro, take a rip and get ready to sweat. One thing we love about the Puffco products is the ability to replace the glass with heavy attachments, customizing or making your Puffco a one-of-one will always be a point of conversation at the sesh. In terms of setting and function, the Peak Pro has a seamless button for you to navigate through settings.

They also provide an app for you to use and program your device through your phone. Check out their optimal settings or create and share your own with friends. We could go on and on about the Peak Pro, but the sheer amount of support they've received over the years is social proof that a Puffco Peak is a solid investment. The Puffco Peak is great for concentrate users who enjoy a wide array of different consistencies of material, as everything from crumble to resin will be efficiently vaporized. Compact, wireless, and sleekly designed, the Puffco Peak seamlessly fits the power of the e-rig into modern life.

Dr. Dabber Evo Boost

Our next portable dab rig for 2023 is brought to us by Dr. Dabber. You may have seen the UFC champ Sugar Shane ripping it in the cold punch or while hitting his heavy bag. Dr. Dabber's product line offers a few portable dab rigs, but for this blog, we're going to feature their midsize device, the Evo Boost. One of the features that separates the Evo Boost from other portable dab rigs is the placement of the atomizer being located under the glass as opposed to the outside.

The Evo Boost routes the vapor straight into the glass, as most portable e-rigs flow through the device before entering the glass. Since the atomizer is encased in the rig, you might ask where's the carb cap. The Boost Evo has a release valve allowing you to control the airflow of your pull. The magnetic atomizer ends up being a nice feature because it makes the Evo Boost a bit easier to clean than the usual threaded atomizers. One thing leaving the Evo Boost a little dated is the temp settings.

There are six preset settings ranging from 500 to 750 degrees Fahrenheit. If you dab a lot of rosin, these settings might run a little hot for you. Each temperature setting is calibrated and guaranteed by the temperature control sensor to keep you dialed in at your selected temperature for consistently optimal vape seshes.

Focus V Carta 2

We've been rocking with the Carta since the first edition, and we were lucky to get our hands on the beta of version 2 before its official release. The Carta 2 dropped, and it gave on-the-go dabbers fat clouds from a larger 360-degree heated atomizer. The Carta 2 brought us the OLED screen to visibly toggle through its settings, or you can adjust the device through the app on your phone.

We also love being able to upload images to the screen to customize the device. If you're into flexing on your friends, the screen also displays the amount of rips you've taken out of the device. Like the Puffco products, Focus V has a gang of glass artists making heavy attachments for the Carta 2. One accessory we're hyped on is the portable charger Focus V offers. Set your phone or Carta on top of it for wireless charging.

We also love the shoulder bag Focus V gives you with the device. We take it out on days we don't even bring our rig. Focus V has a great presence at LA events and on Discord. Community is something that we value highly at Highrise. At 360 bucks, you can't go wrong with a Carta 2.

Vlab Halo 2

Our next device comes in at less than half the price of its competitors. At less than 200 bucks, the Vlab Halo 2 gives you a lot of great features for its price. We like the size of the Halo and how it fits in the hand, as well as its glass attachment.

The Halo glass is interchangeable with the Carta glass, so you can support glass artists to customize this rig too. Similar to the original Puffco, the Halo features a touch sensor to flip through its settings, with four settings ranging from 480 to 750 degrees Fahrenheit. You'll be able to take rips down to a semi-low temp to taste your terps. The Halo isn't spotted as much as its competitors out in the field, but the few times we've ripped it, we can say it holds up to the industry standards. For less than two bills, you can't go wrong with the Vlab Halo 2.

Puffco Proxy

And for the last portable dab device on the Highrise 2023 list, it has to be the Puffco Proxy. As they do, Puffco changed the game with this one. Off the bat, this thing is unlike any other device. Essentially, it's a portable 3D atomizer that's fully customizable. Puffco is clearly the Apple of the cannabis space, and when it comes to tech and design, they stamp that with Proxy. The atomizer comes with a sleek glass grandfather-style pipe that skips the water, supporting one of the 2023 dabbing trends, dry rips for TPS.

While we're still scared of the dry rips, the thing that we love the most about the Proxy is that it works in collaboration with glass artists. As we're moving into the future of dabbing and these portable dab devices, the traditional glass blowers that have created the culture of what we smoke out of could be put out of business. When the Proxy dropped, Puffco released the size specs, encouraging glass artists to make rigs for it. Immediately, artists went crazy and attachments went viral.

Framing their products in a way that creates collaboration and preserves these artists' careers is something we got to give Puffco their flowers for. So much of dabbing with friends is about tasting flavors and trying out new smoking tech. Anytime anyone pulls out a Puffco Proxy portable dab rig, you can bet it provides broad flexibility for your cannabis consumption experience.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Portable Dab Rig

When deciding on a portable dab rig, it is essential to take various factors into consideration. These factors include the rig's material, size, heating method, attachment compatibility, and price range. By evaluating these aspects, individuals can make an informed choice and ensure an optimal dabbing experience.

Material: The material of the dab rig plays a crucial role in its durability, heat retention, and overall performance. Common materials include glass, silicone, ceramic, and titanium. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages, so users should consider their preferences and intended usage before making a selection.

Size: The size of the portable dab rig is another vital factor to consider. Compact rigs are more travel-friendly and easier to carry, but they may have smaller chambers and less functionality. Larger rigs, on the other hand, can provide better water filtration and a more substantial vapor production. Choosing the right size depends on personal preferences and usage scenarios.

Heating Method: Portable dab rigs employ various heating methods, including electric nails (e-nails), butane torches, and battery-powered heating elements. E-nails offer precise temperature control, while torches provide high heat output. Battery-powered rigs offer convenience and portability. Each heating method has its own pros and cons, and users should opt for the one that suits their needs and preferences.

Attachment Compatibility: Consider the compatibility of accessories and attachments with the portable dab rig. Different rigs may support various add-ons like quartz bangers, titanium nails, or ceramic heating dishes. Compatibility ensures that users can easily customize their dabbing experience while ensuring optimal performance and functionality.

Price Range: Lastly, the price range of the portable dab rig is an important consideration. Prices can vary significantly depending on factors such as brand reputation, material quality, additional features, and design complexity. It is crucial to set a budget and consider the long-term value and durability of the chosen rig.
